Tomko earns doctorate in counseling psychology

Jody Tomko of Pittsburgh, Pa., recently was awarded her doctorate in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University.

Jody Tomko of Pittsburgh, Pa., recently was awarded her doctorate in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University.

Tomko (formerly Thompson) is a 1997 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Alma College in 2000 and her master’s degree in counseling from Central Michigan University in 2003.

At WMU, she served as assistant to the training director and staff and client coordinator in the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. She was co-awarded the 2007 Counseling Psychology Doctoral Student of the Year award.

In August 2008, she completed her American Psychological Association-approved doctoral internship at the Veterans Administration Western New York Healthcare System in Buffalo, N.Y.

Tomko and her husband Jeff recently relocated to Pittsburgh, Pa. She is currently working as the Home Based Primary Care psychologist at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System.
